A Note from Kate: Goals for the New Year

Every time the New Year rolls around I can’t help but feel like there’s this unspoken pressure to commit to a whole bunch of resolutions. At least for me, in the past, I’ve always had so many and have probably only kept to a fraction of them. I say enough of that this year because this time around I’m really trying to hone in on two or three solid resolutions that are seriously achievable.  Like I’ve mentioned before: It’s not about putting pressure on yourself.

We have enough opportunities to do that throughout the year without adding on the pressure of a new year to come. Instead, I’m really going to try and stick to the ones that mean the most. What about you? What are some of your goals for 2014?

The only thing I’m really holding myself to for 2014 is running my first full marathon. I ran two half marathons in 2013, and a total of 802.2 miles. I just started training for the Pittsburgh Marathon (May 4), and I’m ready to own 2014. I have some other thoughts — learn how to cook tofu, keep the mudroom under control, work on the book — but I’m not holding them to specific dates or anything.
