It’s a New Year and you are suddenly motivated to get killer abs now! You are over holiday parties, decadent deserts and heavy family comfort foods. You are no longer interested in scouring the internet to Instagram stalk the abs you love, liking your fitspiration’s every post, nor lusting after the sculpted abs of the fitness models in magazines. If you like one more picture from the sofa, watching The Housewives of … marathon with tablet in hand, you will call your own intervention. You’re ready for action, there’s just one problem… You have been inundated with information and unsure where to begin. Should you go vegan or try the paleo diet? Should you purchase that ab gadget from the infomercial or will you get flat abs if you keep doing your classes at the gym? And then you heard if you do 1,000 crunches every night you will get a six pack in no time.
Sometimes more information just leaves you feeling more clueless. I’m clearing up the confusion once and for all. Follow these 3 simple rules for the flat abs of your dreams.
Rule #1- Clean up your diet!
Everyone has heard the phrase, abs are made in the kitchen. Well it is true! Eat real food often. It doesn’t matter if you are vegetarian, pescatarian, or a meat eater. What does matter is the type of food you consume. Fill your plate with a beautiful variety of colorful vegetables and fruits of the season. Don’t overthink this one, the more natural and unprocessed the food, the more efficient your body will metabolze it. Remember food is fuel, when you eat you should feel energized and vibrant, if not, rethink your fuel.
Rule #2 – Exercise.
Your overall goal with exercising for a sexy mid section, is to lower your body fat and increase your muscle mass. The best way to do this is strength training. Strength training includes weight training, body weight training, yoga and pilates. This is the secret to lowering your body fat and changing the way your body looks. Ditch the scale and check in with your body. Let how you look in your clothes and feel in your body be your barometer of change. Add three days of strength training to your routine and watch your abs get flatter.
Rule #3 – Be Consistent.
How long will it take? That depends on you. You are now ready for action, no longer willing to be a cheerleader, it’s time to get in the game and play until you win. If you fall or drop the ball, it’s okay. That’s all apart of the game. Do not stop until your abs are as fabulous as your killer spin insructor’s, that would be me. 🙂
