As part of the mission of GROOV3, it is important for us to be active in the community and to give back. Over the past 4 years we have done numerous benefit classes which we call DANCE, SWEAT, GIVE for a variety of local charities. On Sunday, March 16th we partnered up with a local dance based organization called Operation:Unite founded by professional dancer and choreographer Mr. Lucky. The organization helps fund dance therapy programs for children with cancer and special needs at local hospitals. I know most of our community, including myself are very aware of the life changing benefits dance holds, so it seemed fitting to help raise money for this cause.
We rented out the Gymnasium at the Hollywood Rec Center and set up shop. One of our fav DJ’s, DJ Ivy generously donated her time to come spin for the hour long class. Operation: Unite posters were hung all over the room, we had some great prizes donated for a raffle from local studios and Miranda Media was in the house to capture the event.
Once the 50 something attendees made their way into the room, I kicked things off with a welcome speech and explained the format of class. Then Mr. Lucky took to the stage to lead everyone in his signature Old Skool Skinny warm up. Once the class broke a sweat, I jumped up and began the GROOV3 class.
An hour later, we had Danced, definitely Sweat, and everyone was Living for the wonderful day. We ended up raising over $1,000 and and got a great workout in the process. I love doing these events because not only do the participants get lots of benefits out of it, the recipients will surely receive the benefits as well!
Benjamin Allen started his very own dance movement, GROOV3. GROOV3 is a movement designed to bring people together from all backgrounds using dance to spark joy and happiness in their lives.
