A Note From Kate: My Favorite Quotes

I love finding quotes and holding on to them so I’m able to go back and enjoy the meaning in a particular moment.  There’s just a lot of comfort in being moved or inspired or encouraged by someone else’s thoughts as a reminder of something I really need to hear. Below are a few of my favorites – thoughts I find myself coming back to a lot when I need a little extra reinforcement!

“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you were heading.”- Lao Tzu

I really respect the ideals behind Taoism. I imagine this could be a hard concept to grasp but, really, it’s difficult to live a rewarding life when everything you do is so regimented. Sometimes it really is good to just go with the flow and let life surprise you every once in a while.

“You can’t outwit fate by trying to stand on the sidelines and place little side bets about the outcome of life. Either you wade in and risk everything to play the game, or you don’t play at all. And if you don’t play, you can’t win.” -Judith McKnaught

This quote really resonates with me. There’s risk involved in every important decision you make in life and it’s impossible to reach a goal without understanding that. It’s hard to win if you’re standing idle and afraid to get dirty. Just get dirty. There’s nothing better.

“The question isn’t who’s going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.”- Ayn Rand

I think everyone should incorporate this way of thinking into their life. To really succeed in life, it’s important to be firm about what you believe in, initiate conversations about what you want, and go full-force into whatever your goals may be.

“It is not the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.”- William Shakespeare

I keep this quote handy at all times. I think all people should remember that it is not up to fate to decide what will happen to us; it’s the choices and decisions we make every day, consciously and with our whole hearts, that will determine the course of our futures.
