Pound it out with Crunch’s hot workout

by

Parents, let your children bang on those pots and pans because they actually may be onto something. Minus the kitchen equipment, the latest workout craze Pound has drummed up enough noise in the fitness community and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

After encountering my first Pound class with Haleigh (who had a leg up on me in this one after already taking the class), I knew it was going to be an adventure after the instructor broke her ‘drumstick’ in half in the first five minutes from too much enthusiasm. What did I get myself into?

Pound

We’ve already established that I am void of rhythm and former dancer Haleigh has no issue with coordination so you can imagine what I looked like trying to complete exercise moves while beating a drumstick to the music. However, as un-smooth as I did look, I will admit we were sweating within the first 10 minutes.

The workout, which combines cardio moves with strength training and drumming, works the entire body as it moves to a basic beat. Each 2-4 minute song is carefully calibrated with interval peaks and extended fat burning sequences, providing you with the best workout in the shortest span of time.” (PoundFit.com)

During one song the instructor may be guiding you through mainly lower body-focused moves and then for the next song, you could be on the floor focusing on your core. The constant moving, upbeat music and fast pace, is a recipe for a great workout.

Even if dancing or keeping any sort of rhythm while beating the floor with a stick isn’t your thing, it’s always a great idea to switch it up – and not just for physical gains but also mental sanity. Sticking to the same schedule can become boring so even if a workout such as Pound is used as a supplement to your regular fitness regimen, your week is off to a bang (see what I did there?)

If you’re interested in trying out a Pound class, check out their website at www.poundfit.com and get ready for a calorie-burning class. And in the meantime, get out those pots and pans and start a-banging!
