What Moves You Grant Winner: Sandrine Harris

by

Whole Body Wellness Through KINESOMA℠
Movement has the power to transform your mind and body. Moving daily has been a part of my life since I can remember, and it is what I am most passionate about! It is this passion that drew me to create KINESOMA℠, so I can help others experience the benefits—and the joy—of mindful movement.

KINESOMA℠ is a comprehensive system that creatively blends principles and practices of
Dance, the Feldenkrais Method®, and Mindfulness into a gentle, whole-person approach to exercise. With an emphasis on deliberate movement, observation, learning, and FUN, classes are accessible to every body and everybody and re-teach how to move with ease and efficiency.

My history with movement work began early in life. I was a professional dancer and trained rigorously, every day, for more than 20 years. Along the way, I experienced my share of chronic injuries and body changes that led me on a search for how movement could contribute to overall wellness. Through studying many different modalities, I have found a way to move that is balanced and geared towards healthy joints, strong muscles, and a peaceful mind. I share this with others through KINESOMA℠ classes and private sessions.

Thanks to the generous support of a What Moves You grant from FABLETICS, I have created a 12-workshop program for my community called WHOLE BODY WELLNESS THROUGH KINESOMA℠. Each workshop is devoted to a different topic related to movement wellness. From March through December 2014, I’ll be helping my community explore movement through these dynamic classes:
■ KINESOMA℠ Movement Learning
■ Breath
■ Your Pelvis & Pelvic Floor
■ Balance
■ Strength Through Ballet
■ Your Dynamic Skeleton
■ Happy Hips & Knees
■ Tension Relief for Neck & Shoulders
■ Rhythms of Movement
■ Rediscovering Your Hands and Feet
■ Movement for Stress Relief
■ Dance for JOY!

I can’t wait to share more about this program as we progress throughout the year. My local
community in Northwestern Connecticut is ready to M-O-V-E! !!!!!!

I’ve really enjoyed the Kinesoma classes I’ve attended. Sandrine Harris is an excellent teacher. I’ve known her since she and I were both children, and I always get a good feeling in her class knowing that she found her truth with Kinesoma. She’s doing what she was born to do. Just lovely!

The way Kinesoma is so gentle but effective! I have weak joints and these workshops have improved my movement so much. I love how Sandrine explains the science and anatomy of what she’s teaching, plus she is such a great teacher. Congrats on the grant, Sandrine!

Sandrine and her Kinesoma techniques have really helped my stay flexible and injury free on the mountains as I snowboard…and at 59 years old, that says a lot to keep up with the 30 year olds. Try Kinesoma, it will help and Sandrine knows how to make it work best.

I love Sandrine Harris’ Kinesoma classes. They emphasize paying attention and being aware, which results in me feeling a deep appreciation for my body. I’m always surprised what I learn about myself. And mostly I’m surprised at what a pleasure it is! A pleasure to move my body and a pleasure to experience her teaching.

The best teachers create experiences where what is happening on the outside is matched by movement and insight on the inside and that is what Sandrine Harris brings to the table in her Kinesoma classes. As she gently and intelligently guides you through the class, she creates an environment that is supportive of internal reflection and learning. This aspect makes the Kinesoma experience unique and distinguishes it from your run-of-the-mill exercise class. In short, Sandrine Harris’ teaching style allows for strengthening and growth on the outside and the inside!

Sandrine Harris’ Kinesoma classes are just what this busy mother of two young children needs and looks forward to!  Sandrine’s classes allow me to slow down and recharge.  Sandrine inspires me to move and think differently.  Sandrine is a fun and challenging teacher and her music selection is awesome!

    Sandrine,

The line-up for your work-shop series looks incredible, Sandrine–wow. It’s amazing what generous individuals and teams of individuals can do to serve the world by mobilizing people like you to heal and sustain the health of the person and planet. Much thanks to Fabletics for recognizing your talent and the transformational opportunities offered by Kinesoma’s balance between an individualized and collective approach to moving and learning. So grateful for you and proud to be your partner in this work.

As a singer and performer, mindful movement is at the core of my practice; from breath preparation to each careful movement on stage. I am very much looking forward to the May 25th class, Your Pelvis & Pelvic Floor, to reinforce awareness of my WHOLE BODY WELLNESS through KINESOMA. Looking forward to it Sandrine Harris!

MelodyGallo Thank you, Melody! In the PELVIS & PELVIC FLOOR workshop, we will explore the basic anatomy of the bony pelvis & the pelvic diaphragm, and learn special movement exercises which bring awareness & health to the pelvic floor. We’ll also practice movement strategies for allowing the pelvis to become a strong base of support for your whole spine. I’ll be offering take-home exercises for people to use over time. See you there!
