I was curious about pole dancing for some time, and once it gained traction as a sport, I purchased a Groupon deal, and have been hooked ever since. Pole dancing is not just a way to learn to be sexy; it’s an aerial art and has become a huge form of performance art in circus, theatre, and fine art. Pole dancing is an empowering sport because it is all encompassing; it caters to all ages, body types, professions, and interests. Aside from the strength training and cardio benefits, it gives a huge boost in self-confidence and body awareness, allowing one to feel sexy and comfortable in their own skin.
Pole dancing only became “exotic” in the last several decades, and is not universally a “sexy” dance. In fact, the modern form draws moves from male dominant sports, i.e, Chinese Acrobatic Pole, and Mallakhamba. Due to its adrenaline rushes and limitless moves, it brings in both male and female athletes in all different forms such as gymnastics, cheerleading, rock climbing, yoga, parkour, breakdancing, martial arts, ballroom, ballet, etc. It is even currently in the process of becoming an Olympic sport.
Pole dancing is limitless in that it has freedom of confinements of expression. It has a nurturing environment with a welcoming community. Because pole dancing is catered to whatever the dancer chooses to take from it, pole is for anyone and everyone.
