Food pairings become classics for a reason. They simply work! Every once in a while I crave an organic, grass-fed steak and pair it with a rich and robust Cabernet Sauvignon. Another great pairing is fresh oysters with a glass of muscadet or Chablis. And don’t forget dessert! Port wine with dark chocolate is a great way to end a meal. And if it’s a special occasion – and you’re feeling romantic and prepared to spend a bit more – Champagne and caviar is one of my all-time favorites!
PERFECT CHEESE PLATE FOR WINE TASTING
I think the perfect cheese plate for wine tasting mixes different flavors and textures. I like to serve a hard, sharp cheese (English cheddar or Spanish manchego), a soft, creamy cheese (French brie or Camembert), a tangy goat cheese, and a pungent or mild blue cheese. These are all delicious with a variety of red and white wines, as well as fresh or dried fruits and breads.
NAPA STYLE VENETIAN WINE TUMBLERS $69 (www.napastyle.com) I love mixing and matching plates and glasses. These delicate tumblers are each unique, but work together beautifully as a set. They completely remind me of me of Italy – one of my favorite countries and cuisines.
