What to Pack for the Perfect Summer Picnic

by

What better way to enjoy the summer than by celebrating National Picnic Month in August?!  No matter where you live (even if it’s somewhere without the fear of a long winter around the corner), picnics are the ultimate way to maximize long, warm days of the season.  The possibilities are endless for summer picnic opportunities: concerts, movies, plays – not to mention all of the parks and beaches just begging to be appreciated.  Check your local event calendar, gather your friends, and pack your bags!  See below for a guide to my ideal picnic.

Essentials

Blanket: A Turkish towel is big enough for everyone and the perfect backdrop (and can be used to dry off after a swim)
Cups: Wine2Go silicone wine glasses offer a conversation piece and squish to fit into any bag
Plates: Paper plates to add a summery touch. CB2 Oliver plates are the cutest
Napkins
Utensils
Toothpicks
Sharp knife
Cutting board
Serving bowls
Wine opener
Straws
Trash bag
Cooler with ice
Insulated tote bags

Beverages

Wine (of course!): Cans: I love cans that are easy to pack, such as Sofia champagne, Underwood Wine or Flip Flop Fizzy Sangria;  Boxes of wine:  Trader Joe’s and BevMo have plenty of fun options;  Screw top wine bottles: always preferred in case the wine opener gets forgotten
Sparkling water: Necessary for hydration and not making your non-drinking friends feel left out

Easy Display Snacks

Salami: I should mention I was a vegetarian for 8 years, salami being the meat that converted me
Cheese: Sharp: Beecher’s Flagship Cheddar gives me a taste of New York; Soft: St. Andre for an expensive taste at an inexpensive price; Variety pack: pre-sliced options of Swiss, gouda, etc. ensure something for everyone
Olives: Prepackaged olives for cuteness and leak-proof transport
Crackers: Raincoast Crisps are worth the splurge; Stacy’s Simply Naked Pita Chips: You can’t go wrong in the sun with its buttery and salty taste
Baguette: For a touch of a French-esque picnic
Fruit and veggies: Easy-snacking, healthy add-ons like grapes, strawberries, blueberries, carrots
Jelly: Dalmatia Fig Spread adds excitement to any cheese/cracker/salami combo
Dessert: Cadbury Mini Eggs are my favorite chocolate of all time – portion control size, bought in bulk during Easter and rationed throughout the year

Easy-Prep Snacks

Jars: Wide-mouth mason jars with hummus on the bottom and cucumber spears
Salad: Watermelon with feta, mint, salt and pepper
Skewers: Toothpicks with mozzarella, tomato and basil (bring a basil plant for extra freshness and decoration, and an egg carton for a cute and efficient display)

First of all… LOVE picnics and I love wine anything! This is such a great list of must haves. Union Wine Rosé cans + Wine2go wine glasses + a basic Coverlet from Turkish towels is the perfect recipe for a picnic anywhere – even on a sidewalk in front of the Apple store for the iPhone 7 release lol Once again, Fab nails it 🙂
