5 Ways to De-Stress with Essential Oils



The six-week period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s is one of the most stressful, busy but also fun times of the year. Every December, you can usually count on a crisis because things didn’t work out just the way you had planned. One easy, yet super reliable way to de-stress and recharge during the rollercoaster holiday season is with essential oils. Here are our 5 favorite ways to use them:

1. Detox Bath

One of my favorite ways to detox is to take an Epsom salt bath infused with lavender and eucalyptus essential oils! Epsom salts have a high magnesium and sulfate content, which are beneficial for sore muscles. Lavender has been used for thousands of years and is known for its calming and relaxing properties on the mind and body. Eucalyptus is antibacterial and supports respiratory health. Detox baths are a great remedy for overall stress and tension.

What you need:
• 2 Cups of Epsom Salts
• 10 Drops of Lavender Oil
• 10 Drops of Eucalyptus Oil
• 2 Tbsp. of Dried Lavender Flower

What you do:
1. Mix together the Epsom salts, essential oils and dried lavender.
2. Pour 1 cup of the mixture into a warm bath and soak for at least 15-30 minutes.

2. Start Diffusing

If you don’t have an aromatherapy diffuser in your home, buy one now! Diffusing essential oils is a cost-effective and powerful way to experience the benefits of aromatherapy. Studies show that simply inhaling the aroma of an essential oil is effective for calming anxious or nervous feelings. Try these diffuser blends, using 2-3 drops of each oil.

• For Immunity: Clove + Lemon
• For Energy: Peppermint + Orange
• For Peace: Clary Sage + Vetiver
• For Calm: Lavender + Sandalwood
• For a Holiday Party: Orange + Frankincense + Cinnamon

3. Sip on Herbal Tea

Skip the coffee and turn to a healthy herbal tea like chamomile and passionflower to calm your nerves. Try adding lemon, orange, lavender or bergamot essential oils for an extra boost!

4. Stop, Drop and Meditate

Feel a festive meltdown coming on? Turn to meditation. Choose a calming essential oil and apply it over your heart and third eye chakra. Find a quiet space, close your eyes, relax, and focus on your breathing. This simple practice will completely shift your mood.

5. Sleep More

Lastly, use calming essential oils to get a restful night’s sleep. Bergamot and lavender are high in linalyl-acetate and linalool, which are compounds with relaxing properties. Both oils can be diffused, used topically or taken internally to calm the nervous system and promote relaxation.
