This month’s collection and campaign are all about finding an activity you love and truly learning to connect to it (body, mind and soul). It’s about what motivates you, what you’re passionate about and what pushes you to go that extra mile or do an extra 10 squats! It got me thinking about my passions—my family, my work, my friends, being in nature—but beyond that, what’s the one thing that’s always guaranteed to get me moving (even when I really don’t feel like it)?
For me, one of my biggest joys in life—and that one thing that can always get me moving—is definitely dance! I started dancing when I was 3 years old; my mom put me into dance because it’s one of her passions too. It goes hand-in-hand with my love of music; I can’t think of anything more fun that turning up the volume on a favorite tune and dancing around the house, preferably with my boys joining in.
I frequently find myself gravitating towards workouts that have an element of dance in them, like classes with Body by Simone, barre and pole dancing workouts—which look fun but are a serious challenge! Dance also helps me be aware of my body and celebrate all the incredible things it can do, which, to me, is an important part of cultivating an intuitive relationship with yourself. I know that if I’m feeling stressed, out-of-balance or out-of-sorts, a solo dance party is an instant fix.
In 2009, I got to fulfill a dream by starring as Stephanie in Rob Marshall’s Nine! I loved being able to combine acting and dance, and a lot of days I didn’t even want to leave the set! My point is, in order to sustain an active lifestyle, it always has to come from a place of passion. Find something you love, something you feel like you can’t live without, and make that the foundation for you to get moving. It’ll put a big smile on your face, I promise. 🙂
