Demi’s Diary: My Journey to Body Positivity


As I sit here today writing this, I’m beyond thankful to be in a really great place—physically, mentally and spiritually. I can honestly say that I feel content with who I am and that’s a beautiful thing to be able to experience. It wasn’t easy getting here; it took patience and perseverance to be able to look in the mirror and be truly happy. The past few years have been an ever-evolving journey—one where I had to tackle a lot of things head on and challenge how I see the world. Even though it was tough, I feel better having gone through the process than I ever could have imagined.

One of the first and (most important) things I learned on my journey was being kind to myself. But if I wasn’t taking care of myself, who would? Treat yourself how you’d treat a best friend or family member. Sometimes it’s as small as looking in the mirror and appreciating something that you love about yourself—your eye color, your freckles, how strong your arms are. The more you treat yourself with love and care, the more your thought processes will become more positive.

I also realized that I had to love me for me, and part of that meant not comparing myself to others. Here’s a universal truth: you can be beautiful at any weight, any height, any age and any color. A big change was my approach to fitness and nutrition. I want to feel strong, energized, confident and healthy. I pay attention to what I put into my body and how I work out to get stronger. I’m responsible for taking care of myself!

Above all, it’s so important to realize that you only have to answer to yourself. Other people will always have their own opinions of who you should be, but you’ve got to be true to yourself!
