Our Pre-Holiday Meditation Challenge


With the holidays just around the corner, life can get pretty hectic. Whether you’re making those lists and checking them twice, preparing for out of town guests or getting ready to travel, this easy meditation challenge will help you keep your cool this holiday season. Keeping calm is the best gift you can give anyone!

Meditation is the act of being present, and it’s a great way to relieve stress. There is no wrong way to meditate. If you’re a self-motivated learner, try taking a few minutes out of your day to find a comfortable seat, listen to your breath and focus on the moment. You may even use mantra or set an intention to focus on to give you a sense of clarity and purpose for your meditation that day. If you find that you’re easily distracted, downloading a meditation app or going to a meditation class can be a helpful tool—because a guided meditation gives you a better opportunity to stay focused. Whatever method of meditation you choose, here are some steps to follow to help you succeed in your pre-holiday meditation challenge.


Step 1: Decide how long you’ll meditate every day.

Example: I will meditate for 5 minutes daily.


Step 2: Make a goal for how long you’ll keep up the challenge.

Experts say it takes 21 days to form a habit. We’d say a good goal is to try to do a 14-day meditation challenge. But you may find that after those two weeks, it’s easy to keep up with your daily meditation—and you may feel inspired to do it all month!


Step 3: Hold yourself accountable.

If you’re a visual person, write down your challenge goal somewhere you can see it. If you’re a planner, set a timer to go off at the same time every day to remind you to meditate. If you like to go with the flow, finding that down time to meditate could happen anywhere or anytime that works for you. If you find strength in community, have a friend join you on your meditation challenge, so that you have someone you can share the zen with! Step 4: Have fun with it!

Don’t beat yourself up if life gets in the way. If you forget a day, you can always start over and try again! Remember this meditation challenge is here to make your life less stressful … so don’t stress about the challenge itself! Enjoy your meditation and stay calm.
