International Women’s Day: Dr. Jessica Sheperd

What female achievement inspires you?

As an ob/gyn, my love for woman’s health is overwhelming.  One female achievement that inspires me is the pregnancy and labor phenomenon.  Still to this day, I am in awe of the human body as it grows a human and how much adjustment a woman makes in order to facilitate this wonderful miracle.  The amount of changes in organ systems and mechanics involved in the delivery of a baby is completely fascinating. The many things that women achieve is always inspiring and this additional transformation always has me in awe of how dynamic women are!

Why are you proud to be a woman today?

I’m so proud to be a woman today because of the paths we have forged for ourselves and continuing that journey to advance our women is bright and exciting.  As we continue to impact others in this quest, I know I have a place and am proud to have a voice and also for those coming up behind me.  The concept of reaching back to help others has always resonated strongly with me. My impact as a woman in this world, to my family and my community is a passion of mine and as said best by Steve Jobs, “people with passion can change the world for the better”

What advice do you have for a future generation of female leaders and trailblazers?

The path of accomplishment consists or consistency, tenacity and passion. There will be good days and bad days, but strive to be steady, so keep your head focused and not let your spirit be diminished.  Our future leaders should be sure to clearly define their vision, while taking the time to embrace and internalize the pursuit of their dream.  From that point taking the time to make a commitment will help inspire and push them to continue forward.

What does female empowerment mean to you?

Female empowerment means the ability to inspire others in their voices, passions and confidence.  Many women will not believe in their infinite potentials and set limitations. There are various ways to empower and inspire others and whatever way I can foster some power in another person for use in their own life is extremely important to me.
